SELF BUILDER SERVICES

It can seem very daunting starting out on a self build project of any size.

Advice come from all directions, some of it genuine  but much of it angling for business and promising they can do it all and know it all.

We are able to help you with a number of very important items, often overlooked, but can turn out to be very expensive.

Desk Study Assessment

You may have an area in mind or even have identified a plot of land, but what do you know about it.

As part of our land search we can identify any potential costly issues by simply performing a Desk Study Assessment.

The assessment will include:

Envirocheck Assessment (the basis for contaminated land assessment) and the required advice

Professional Assessment (a contaminated land assessment also known as a Land Quality Assessment (LQA) we also use many database searches in order to assess against ecological, archeological, geological, flood risk and many more. The assessment includes a summary of the finding and advice on any potential issues.

Your land is purchased, you have an idea of the issues (if any) and are ready to get going. Before you start building, however, please spare some thought to the following:

Sustainable Drainage Systems

Many planning applications are delayed because the developer, builder has not considered the implications of the build on sewerage and surface water removal from site. Many planning applications require consideration for both.

The use of septic tank solutions, particularly in rural and eco-friendly developments requires confirmation that the ground is suitable for such a solution. Similarly for SUDS (more commonly known as soakaway systems).

Soakaway tests to BRE standard are required for straight soakaway design, bespoke borehole and rain water harvesting.

Foundation Design

Do you know the ground you are building on?

Is it suitable for your foundations?

Are there any retaining walls, slopes?

Are there mines, voids underground?

Foundations are one of the most important elements of build, once constructed your home relies on the foundation design to remain safe and stable. A full ground investigation, geotechnical assessment and design advice is essential and the use of a professional qualified geotechnical consultant is essential.

Renewable Energy

Planning to incorporate a wind turbine or ground source heating into your project, we are able to take you right through the process from the turbine foundation, the suitability of trench or borehole technology for ground source heating, the project management of the specialist contractors and the process for the feed in tariff and renewable heat incentive.

Whatever the project and wherever the project we will be please to help you achieve your dream.
